There are many tools available to help you create your own site.

Problem 1: There is a learning curve.
Problem 2: There is a limited variety of templates.
Problem 3: You end up with a cook.

• Do you know the special coding needed to make it work correctly?
• Did you know Using a free template limits what you can do?
• Do you know how to make sure Search engines are finding your site?
• Do you know how to share your site on Social Media?
• What about Security, preventing hackers for attacking your site?
• Is it safe to use plugins available in the repository?

Don’t Annoy Your Visitor

Many do-it-yourselfers create sites that look like a circus of colors.

I’m not talking about website colors (although sometimes that happens too).  I’m talking about text.  Change the color of this header or paragraph to call attention to it.  Use a different color on the next, because it’s more important than the last, etc.  Or change the color of the text from your standard color to red, or blue, or green, or orange, tec., because each paragraph is really important and need attention… you get the idea.

Pretty soon, the visitor’s eye doesn’t know where to look.  Your visitor gets so frustrated that they leave your site and look elsewhere. 

Watch Out For Junk

• Music. Love the song – so will all your visitors. NOT
• Flash / Animations  – fun to do, but can be so distracting.
• Images not optimized – can you see the bars as the page SLOWLY loads?
• Is your site mobile responsive? Who cares about tablet and phone users?
• Minimal bandwidth – cheap hosting site? Throttling?  Why is it so SLOW?
