The 2004 Award of Excellence was presented to Deanna Lilly of
Business Concepts, Inc. for her contributions to women in
education and business, and for all she did to help promote this
year's Women's Expo with her contribution of the
Women's
Expo website. (Picture taken the day
after I broke my knee-cap)
Deanna headed up the "Minding Your (own) Business" section of
the Expo, organizing and presenting several mini-seminars on all
aspects of building and running a small business, as well as two
full 1/2 hour workshops on Building Your Website and Building It
Right. Several guest speakers were part of the lineup and
the seminars were presented on the floor in the classroom of
Minding Your (own) Business area and were a great success.
Ms. Lilly stated that, "...although I went to the Expo with
the idea of just getting more exposure for my business and my
target audience, the independent business professional, I was
greatly surprised by the number of calls I later received for
websites.
It's hard for a lot of smaller businesses to realize that
they need a good web presence to make their business successful.
Most of them think if you have a website you are selling
something. But in reality, your website gives the public
unlimited access to what you do and when you are open for
business. Most of the time, people shop on the web, but
buy when they come to see you."

The Women's Expo will benefit all who attend and support
scholarships for students at CCBC, along with supporting the
efforts of women to expand their skills through workshops and
conferences. This Expo is being held by the
American
Association of Women in Community Colleges (a non-profit
organization) and sponsored at this time by Fox Chevrolet, A&M
Jeweler, and Wright Financial L.L.C.
Make your plans now for the 2005 event. Although this may
seem early, we find it an excellent time to mark the calendar
for a fun filled day, and to give everyone time to purchase
tickets as give-a-ways for those who are deserving. If you have
a group that you support, such as scouts, single parents, or an
orphanage, please purchase extra tickets and bring that group
with you. Everyone will find something of interest, and all
should go home with new information, handouts of all sorts, and
maybe even a prize or two!
